It's getting close to that time...just trying to see who will have what teams?
What are your thoughts?
-
I just got an email that Junior Reign will have a Flight I AA (copy/pasted from the email:
* Also playing in the 16AA NAPHL Showcase Division ) and a Flight II AA and an A team. Empire will have one AA team. OCHC will have one AA team instead of two. It looks like Wave is trying to field '03 and '04 AA teams.
*edited to fix mistakes

I don't think there is a flight system for 16U. Unless there will be new rules this year?

I think it depends on the number of teams. I hope they scrap the entire flight system...

CAHA in its infinite wisdom reserves the right to Flight or not based on --- well nobody really knows.
12u had 18 teams, 14u had 19 teams and 16u had 16 teams, so I guess they just looked at the number and found that Flighting 16u was more trouble than it was worth, even though if Flighting was worthwhile at any age group, it ought to be just as valid at 16u as it is at 14u.
-
there wasn't a clear top and bottom to the bracket last season, very heavy middle group of teams, so they didn't flight the division. It should be different this year.

Where did the posts on Mariners partnering with Shattuck go? I went to the Mariner website and the info is still there but it’s disappeared from this site? Any thoughts on how that partnership affects teams for the upcoming season?

I found the Mariner/Shattuck information on another California hockey forum called calhockeytalk.com. Apparently that forum will post everything. So it looks like potentially 18 teams next season for 16AA. That should provide a lot of games and some good competition.

Some had said that there would probably be flights in the division...it wasn't the case last year so we shall see.

They will most certainly flight it and get it wrong. Nothing new here.

Anyone notice that, on the CAHA site, when you click on the "tier II pre season evaluation weekend" it says it will be in San Jose?

Not surprising. It was in NorCal 2 years ago and in simi last year which is almost socal ::)

Most likely, it was in Simi Valley last year.
-
This is the 3rd year of the "Jamboree" system. Of course the first year it was in Vacaville. Then Simi/Valencia, and now back to Norcal. Why? There are at most 4-5 teams from Norcal involved, and frequently fewer than that, depending on the age group. When people posit that Norcal has undue representation on the CAHA board, and that they have used their position to funnel money to the Norcal rinks at the expense of SoCal familes, they don't have to look further than this. Given that that Socal teams outnumber the Norcal teams by a 4-1 ratio, Norcal ought to have a Jamboree about once every 4 years, not every other year.
-
I agree 100%... But that 1st year was also in San Jose... Not Vacaville
-
Some simple math for CAHA to consider when making their decision to have every SOCAL AA Team travel to SJ for the "Jamboree".
45(ESTIMATED number of SoCal AA Teams traveling to SJ....PW, Bantam, Midget)
810(ESTIMATED number of SoCal AA players traveling to SJ....PW, Bantam, Midget....based on 18 player roster)
$1500(ESTIMATED cost for one parent and kid to travel to SJ for "Jamboree" weekend...flight, rental car, gas, hotels, food...)
$1,215,000(ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF MONEY SOCAL FAMILIES WILL SPEND TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "JAMBOREE" in San Jose!!)
These are just travel costs....there are club costs, missed work, missed school, etc. to consider as well.
Hopefully CAHA will see the financial stress this puts on most families and come up with a solution that is far more efficient and beneficial to the hockey families.
CAHA has a meeting coming up soon and I think any board member with an ounce of common sense will agree that there has to be a better way....
-
Yuck!
-
While I have my calculator out....how about this.
18 teams x 18 players x 3 divisons=972 AA players in total
Charge $30/player for a CAHA Evaluation fee....$29,160
Mandate that teams play in Labor Day Tournaments in CA
Spend the $29,160 to send CAHA evaluators to watch games at the tournaments...3 for each division or 9 total!
$3240 per evaluator for expenses and compensation.....Pretty sure some competent evaluators may sign up...maybe even evaluators without connections to clubs!
This would save every SoCal AA family an estimated $1470 in 2019!!!!

Topcornzzz, hear hear. By far the two best posts I have read. Thank you for a slice of sanity. Let’s hope the right people are also reading your posts.

Yes, I seem to have blocked that out already :P . I guess I conflated that with the further indignity that there were no Flight2 teams in either PW or Bantam that year, and yet they still made us play a CAHA weekend in Vacaville -- because? $$$$$

Looks like they changed it to something much more generic.

Big stick tap to CAHA for getting the schedule out in a timely nanner. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Has anyone heard that 16U will not have games on Monday? Someone mentioned that in the PW board, but there is still no schedule posted at the link on the CAHA site. It would really be great to know for travel purposes and to maybe save a night of hotel fees!

Your manager should know the last game slot for your division

Heard a maple leaf ran over Empire Goalie.. The goalies brother jumped in to defend him.. And during the mele some one struck the ref. By all accounts I heard the kid did not hit the ref in purpose. Thats all I know and its second /3rd hand info.
