Title: Here is an interesting rule from USA hockey
Post by: Pistonkev on March 04, 2017, 07:43:39 AM
We seem to break this rule all the time.

Here’s the rule: (as listed in the National Championship Tournament Guidebook, Section 2, Subsection Q, Paragraph 2): No team shall be required to play more than two (2) games per day, and no team shall be required to play a second game in one day against a team playing its first game on that day, except with specific written prior approval of the National Championship chairperson. There shall be a minimum of four (4) hours between games on the same day and twelve (12) hours between games played on consecutive days.

As Jim Fox would say, "You can count on everyone knowing the rules except for the coaches and the players."  In this case the schedule makers too.

Thought it was odd since many tourneys we would get a 2 game day with the other team only playing once.

But should be adopted everywhere.  Too easy to give or take advantage.

Sure but tournaments are never going to follow this nor CAHA weekends.  You just can't fit 4-6 games into 3-4 days without playing multiples.

Additionally you have out-of-town teams demanding that the organizers for holiday tournaments will fit them into a travel window.

It's logistics basically.  We have been screwed before. (2 games with 2nd being 9:00pm game followed by 7:00am next morning) but I would have to look at an entire schedule over a number of tournaments before I would jump to any conclusions.  Home teams often have to play games at the start against other local teams so that naturally leads to less compression.
