From my understanding top to midget 16u teams are out of Pasadena and Ontario.
Any thoughts
-
Heard the same, Pats 1 and Empire are teams to beat, at least in scaha
-
THIS IS FUCKN BULLSHIT !@@!!
Why are there so many CAHA weekends in Nor Cal. ,??
-
What you don’t think 80% of the 16U teams want to travel to NorCal for 2/3 of the CAHA weekends? It’s unbelievable!
-
They have so little respect for so cal tier II hockey parents. It's almost painful.
-
SCAHA posted their schedule for the exhibition/scrimmages for this season- dates and times listed on the website. And yes, the CAHA schedule sucks for the CAHA weekends for the SoCa teams.
-
Still waiting for that CAHA game schedule though. Heaven forbid we know when the last games end so we can book flights home.
-
My understanding though has always been locations are determined via bidding. SoCal rinks don’t bid and provide the necessary ice, but NorCal rinks do.
-
If they can't get so Cal rinks to bid then they shouldn't offer Tier II hockey in So Cal. If they told you that nobody would bid on playoffs so everybody has to go to Vegas, would you believe them?
-
Need to put more weight behind it. Tier 1 status should be on the line. Multiple Kings and Ducks operated rinks need to step up.
-

No because it’s clear San Jose will offer to host (actually Valencia has it this season), but I have no problem believing the JD and JK aren’t undercutting NorCal bids because they can make more money with other events. Of course, since the five largest clubs get offered AAA, maybe AAA status contingent on hosting CAHA weekends.
-
Then you have to pay more to keep the sport where the teams form. It's not rocket science. The money it costs to fund three trips to Nor Cal to play So Cal teams keeps people from participating. It benefits a few rinks and costs parents thousands. If you don't care about the growth of the sport and you want to squeeze more money from those already on the hook, you do this.
-
Unquestionably, Covid has made the sport take a hit with participation down in California. However, when I read this, I can't help but also wonder about businesses that are looking to make make money in the short term instead of doing what's best for families they count on to continue to frequent local rinks for years to come. Of course numbers are down.
-
The average tourney cost $1,600-$1,800 for a team entry to play between 4-6 games. CAHA is charging $2,300 for 4 games and sending us to Vacaville all year. They say no one is bidding down south. Kings and Ducks almost never host CAHA and now they own most of the rinks...Except Valencia and Simi Valley...The only other rinks that ever tend to get bids. Weird stuff. I wonder who's to blame on this?
-
My suggestion is. In you offer tier 2 in your club, you HAVE TO be willing to host. These clubs don't want to host because they make an extra $200 to rent ice to someone else or public skating ? If you are making $$ on tier 2 offer your rink !!
-
Needs to have stiffer consequences and target 2 clubs in particular as they manage most of the multi-sheet rinks in SoCal now. A lot of the smaller clubs that do have Tier 2 may only have 1 sheet facilities so it won't help, unless Tier 2 weekends are split across facilities. Kings and Ducks run something like 7 multi-sheet facilities between them? Force them to host and actually support the growth of hockey in SoCal or lose Tier 1. After all, CAHA based a clubs ability to have Tier 1 on the number of registered hockey players anyways, so it not performance based by any means.
-
Even the single sheet rinks should host. Use multiple rinks. The distance between some is not that great.

even san jose is using the fremont rink (1 sheet) to have games at the 1st weekend and thats 17.5 miles away

You do know which clubs control CAHA right? :D
-
I do. Purchasing power still exists though and parents can have a voice when it comes to how their own money is being forced to be spent. A good 3/4 of California hockey is being forced to spend all of this extra money when 90% of their events are in NorCal. That is in no way helping keep kids around the game locally, and I have seen it first hand. Clubs having reduced team counts from last year, parents expressing regret at doing another season this year, some purposely playing down in A to avoid the travel or just walking away altogether.
-
CAHA purportedly will be taking steps to address the SoCal shortfall on bids for Tier 2 events, will be tied to requiring Clubs that field certain number of teams to provide ice slots for CAHA Weekends
-
Consensus of this weekends Caha weekend.....A) some solid teams but no one is unbeatable. Any of the top 5-6 teams could beat each other (as of now) and B) OC has some nutty parents.
JMHO :P

Yeah, top 5-6 teams will be interesting to watch. Those games will all be close.
-
Regardless of the travel sport your kid is playing. Every team has at least one nutty parent!
-
Really glad caha keeps their website up to date so we officially know whats going on.

Our coach sent this out to us. Apparently coaches can access the standings through a different portal.

Based on my limited observations, Pats(1), Empire, and OCHC(1) are the clear front runners. There are a few teams at the bottom that shouldn't be in AA... and a giant pack in the middle that is all over the place and very inconsistent.

Another Weekend, more of the same.. all roads lead to pats/empire. All other teams meh
-
Over the weekend, tempers flaired at Pats1-Wave1 game. Really good game, Pat's pulled away late in 3rd, got a bit chippy, leading to scrum after handshak line in which a Pat's kid ( with a history of incidents) hurled racial slurs at Wave players. My older son had slurs thrown at him in the mid west, at tournaments, but not in So Cal. No place for that, especially here, where we are lucky to have such a diverse mix of people.

Yup, I think Empire & Pats1 will go to the end.
