Might as well get one of these threads started. First tourneys in the books... how's everyone's team look?
-
This would be the Ranking based on what last season's team did in Squirt BB with or without 2006 players.
1. Mariners
2. Jr Flyers
3. Jr Ducks 3
4. Ice Dogs
5. Heat
6. Jr Gulls
7. Jr Kings 2
Jr Ducks 1 & 2, Jr Kings 1, Empire and the Golden Bears are the new teams.
-
I think the top 6 based on number of returning players and Labor Day results are:
1) Jr Flyers
2) Jr Gulls
3) Mariners
4) Jr Ducks (2)
5) Jr Kings (2)
6) Jr Ducks (1)
Jr Ducks (3) from BB last year split into Jr Ducks (2) and Jr Ducks (3) this year with the 2007s going to Jr Ducks (2).

AGREED
after Labor Day Tournaments.
1. Jr Flyers
2. Jr Gulls
3. Jr Ducks 2
4. Jr Ducks 1
5. Jr Kings 2
6. Mariners
7. Ice Dogs
8. Jr Kings 1
9. Golden Bears
10. Empire
11. Jr Ducks 3
12. Heat
Jr Flyers get a pass being Squirt BB Champs. Jr Kings 2, according to families overlooked from last year for this year's team have upgraded at a few positions. Week 1 Preseason should help with this ranking. Mariners, I believe is the Ventura team that played in the Early Bird tournament.
-
Which Kings team was at the Early Bird? They weren't all that impressive in the game our kids played them. Was it another young birth year team playing up?
-
That was JK1-Macy. I don't think they're playing up.
-
Where did Jr. Flyers play for Labor Day? BTW, the Kings-Gasseau team is undoubtedly the best team at this early stage in the season.
-

"Undoubtedly"? How so? Where did they play Labor Day? Based on last years results they should be strong but not number one.
-

I don't think they're even the best Sq A team for the JD, much less all of Sq A. In fact, they are possibly 3rd out of the 3. They went 1-3 in the Early Bird this past weekend.

thats the ducks gasseau team. there is a kings gasseau team as well (kings 2)

Not sure how other teams faired, but our Jr. Duck Squirt A 1 team had a tough finals game against the Jr. Gulls at the Early Bird Tournament in Anaheim. We were very happy with how it turned out.

SMH !!! What next? trophy for every kid... Isn't that the same Jr Gulls team that did NOT make the playoff in Squirt BB?? and if you were really 'very happy with how it turned out,' 4-1... I smell cow dung.
-
You can shake your head all you want. I am not familiar with this team from last year as we are new to the SoCal area, just moved back from Denver, CO. The Jr. Gulls A team went undefeated in the tournament. They were bigger than a lot of the teams, played well as a team, and did a good job of moving the puck.
I say we were happy with the results because while our team had been practicing, they hadn't had any scrimmages or position play practice. Additionally, this is the first time this group of kids had played together. So making it to the finals was a good starting point. I am not a believer in giving every kid a trophy. So don't go there with me on that one, but our kids shouldn't walk off the ice with their heads down. They did well for where they were in the season.
TTFN! Hope you enjoy the season! I know that I will. :D
-
Any word on scores yesterday? I know that Kings Gasseau beat Empire 6-1. Anyone else?
-
This morning Ice Dogs beat Jr Ducks Kabanets 9-1
-
Jr Flyers were at home for Labor Day, and played some low-skilled teams. There are not #1. #1 team in Squirt A is Kings Gasseau by far. They are the clear favorite based on what I saw at the Anaheim Early Bird Tournament, and my knowledge of their team. (I don't think they played anywhere for Labor Day)

Not really the "same" team... Hell 2 of the kids from that Gulls BB team from last season skipped town to join that very JD a1 team they beat in the early bird final (including the goalie). Between transfers out to other programs and kids that were beat out by 08's or incoming transfers during tryouts, almost half of that Gulls A team changed since last season. In other words... like most programs, they'll have a little bit different look this season.
While the Gulls won it, a couple bounces here and there and it could have been either of the JD teams that could have won it. Not sure why that person couldn't be happy about how it turned out. Their team looks very competitive for the upcoming regular season.
...case in point Gulls lost to JD2-Texeira 4-2 this morning (and spent most of the game hemmed in their own end).

How can you say "by far" when they haven't played anyone, oh except Empire...
I think they are #3 at best.
-
Bears came out of hibernation... beat Mariners 4-3.
-
They scrimmaged mariners twice, and smashed them. Plus, that entire team essentially returned from last year, and even got better because they got some 07s too. Just my assessment, and I don't think I'll be proven wrong this season.
-
Ducks (3) lost to Flyers 12-7.
-
This morning Ice Dogs beat Jr Ducks Kabanets 9-1
That was a rough game yesterday. Our Jr. Ducks squad did not look like the same team from last weekend at the tournament. Hoping for a better result this coming weekend.
-
Some of you people need hobbies! Some of you take this way too serious... I'd choose the kings and gulls as my top two do far. The both pad the puck well and have some speed.
-
SDhockeydad07 - i take SD doesn't stand for 'so dumb'. are you claiming that you've upgraded at the net minder spot? and a few 08's have improved your squad from a year ago?? You might as well take your kid back to House League with that 'happy how it turned out' attitude. Better yet, play tee-ball or flag football, which will save you money and fit that passive mentality. What you guys pay in California for hockey, you should expect to win every game. Especially at the rate that JrDucks 1 coach seem to be charging families.
vrspartak - what are your credential to say "#1 team in Squirt A is Kings Gasseau by far. They are the clear favorite based on what I saw at the Anaheim Early Bird Tournament"? what information of that team do you know that makes them #1?? The Gulls left a goose egg on the score board against the same Empire team that your #1 spot failed to do. Point differential was +8 for the Gulls where your Kings got by with a +5. Number one I think not.
KNRFMLY - ALERT : SDhockeydad07 claims you have a dud in the net. Your last post doesn't sound as positive as post tournament review, but understandable, 9-1 is far worst than 4-1.
Hackey11 - what's your hobby that you're on here reading what serious people do? one of your top 2 teams just lost 4-2 last weekend. "The both pad the puck"??? seems like someone needs to return to grammar school.
-
Now that is how you throw down on cal hockey. Nuffsaid, you have taken us all right back to the glory days of this board and Zamboni Driver in full effect. I can see you Squirt parents do not mess around. Well played ;D

Already stated where I got my opinion from. If it makes you feel better, I have the Gulls at #2...but any given Sunday. Just my observations.

vrspartak:
I would also agree that based on the posted rosters, the Kings (2) team looks like an early favorite. They should be a strong group with 2 returning SQA players (07's??), plus other additions (07's?) to a team that had a really nice top line last year in BB.
Kings (2), Gulls, Ducks (2), Flyers, would be my early top 4.
nuffsed:

I don't see anywhere that SDhockeydad07 claimed an upgrade in net, or that the jr Ducks1 got a dud from them. However, the Gulls looked good in Anaheim despite integrating several 08's and a new goalie.
Maybe it's just early, but the top teams in SQA last year seemed a lot stronger at the start of the season.

Yeah, that was my thought process. Your top 4 is essentially the same as mine: Kings2, Gulls, Flyers, Ducks-Tex.....although all those teams are pretty good and capable of winning. Gonna be an interesting season.

Hi, rip you a new one! if you go back to 09-10-17 @ 1:30:55 pm, hackey dad from SD, in parentheses, pointed out (including the goalie) which one could take as being the weak link since they lost 4-1 in that tournament. I may have read that wrong and he did not say they upgraded, but a win is a win no matter what sport you play. My bad.
Mrs.Partak - so cause you stated what you "saw from the A.E.B.T" and what your "knowledge of their team" is, we're supposed to believe that their the clear favorite? Here is what is CLEAR to me. Jr Flyers would be the favorite going into Labor Day because they won SqBB. A toss up now with Ducks 2-Tex and the Gulls because they've won and lost to each other. The Ice Dogs handled Ducks 1-Kab. Kings 2 have no record of playing on Labor Day, so ____________ (insert cricket sound here). Get back at me 10-02 after they've played both Ducks 1 & 2.
lcadad - maybe I'm wrong, but new generation of parents may not like my tone. I may have to go back and find this Zamboni Driver you speak of and have a few laughs. then again, it's just 10U hockey.

Keep it up Nuff... That's what this board is for. Lets wait for the pre-season to finish and then lets rank them up.

No SD doesn't stand for "so dumb," but that pretty much describes you. My kid is on the Gulls, not the Ducks dummy. And unlike you, I would never single out a kid as being a dud. He was one of the better goalies in the league last season, now he plays for JD. We have a new goalie now, and I've only seen him play in a few games. So far so good.
And I have that 'happy with how it turned out' attitude because they are freakin' 9 and 10 year old kids playing a game, you maniac.

nuffsed, don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoy a little smack talk. I just felt it was too close to calling out one particular kid when it's usually/always the parents who decide to jump programs.
I agree that, baring a scrimmage game, the Kings (2) don't have a true test until they play Ducks (2) on Oct 1st. Looking at the schedule for this weekend, I don't see any games that will provide much clarity to the rankings. Maybe if the Ice Dogs can put up a fight with Ducks (2) that will raise an eyebrow. Also, I guess I'm interested in seeing how many the Flyers give up in their game. Not surprised to see them get 12 on the board, but to also give up 7 last week is a bit of a red flag.
Is it just me, or does it drive you crazy that it takes some team managers 3+ days to upload the scores.
-
5lap5hot - thanks for the encouragement.
it’s hard when SpontaneousDouche (Hockeydad07) can only muster up “that pretty much describes you†and “dummy†really hard to work with that sort of dialogue. He forgot that he “singled out†the goalie in parentheses, which saved me having to go compare rosters. no mention of the other rink jumper. I bet StopitDad (Hockeydad07) picked up the game late in life and now living the hockey dream through his 9/10 year old. SorryDude (Hockeydad07), maybe if you were a maniac, you'd be better at hockey. Good luck to your Gulls. Sounds like some members have already crowned the Kings.
give it a rip - invite them lazy managers on CalHockey and they can read all the disgusting comments we have about’em.
-
How'd everyone do this weekend? Flyers had an impressive showing-- beat Bears 10-2.
-

That is impressive. I know Mariners beat empire 7-2.
-
I know JD1-Kabanets beat JK-Macy. Don't know the final score because they stopped updating after 7-0. It was a shutout, but I don't know how many goals JD actually scored. JD2 beat ID 5-2.
-
JK2 beat the Heat, 8-1.
-
Gulls beat JD-3 by a score of 8-1.
-
KNRFMLY any update on the final score in the Ducks (1) vs Kings (1) game? Did it finish 7-0 as reported by Hockeymomx?

ZD was a legendary poster when my count was but in the single digits. I believe he is still here, but at one point he had to leave the board over some beef with the ownership of everyone's favorite OC rink, KHS. I believe he is still active here, but under another name.

They stopped updating the score at 7-0, but actually should be reported as 9-0 JD1 over JK1.
On the topic of standings, why does it take SCAHA so long to post games results. We live scored the games in Colorado over Sports Engine. Wouldn't be hard to do.
-
It's basically the job of the managers to do the input of the scoresheet. The home team manager is responsible for entry of the timesheet into the scaha system, along with upload of a copy. They have a time window within which they are supposed to make it happen, which gives them until 10pm the following Monday night before it's late.

From what I have heard too many rinks didn't want to pay to retrofit with a single source for online game data reporting. Too many use different providers and as a result we have a manual approach.

I think there is also a threat of a $50 fine per late score sheet, but I don't know if it is ever enforced.
This week should be interesting with both the Kings (2) and Flyers getting their first true tests.
-
Not sure Ducks (1) will be a test for Kings (2) but Gulls/Flyers game should be interesting.

I hate to admit that it depends on which Jr. Ducks 1 team shows up. Hoping for a strong showing from our guys, but not looking forward to the 7 am start time.

UPDATE: Jr Ducks 1 fell to Jr Kings 1 2-7. 2nd period was the killer as Jr Kids nag scored 4 unanswered goals. They were sharp on offense with their passing.
-
Jr Gulls and Jr Flyers play to a 3-3 tie.
Gulls dominated the 1st and were up 2-0 at the end. Could have been more, but kids kept missing the net with shots. Not sure if Valencia got a shot on net in the first or not, but definitely no quality scoring chances. 2nd period was Gulls controlling play again at first, but Flyers roar back with 3 goals in like 5 minutes or so and dominated the rest of the period. End 2nd with Flyers up 3-2. The 3rd period was hard fought with good plays on both sides. Gulls chip in one to tie it up and the game ends knotted 3-3.
I thought Gulls were the more physical team, and since there were only 2 linesmen for the game (where the hell was the 3rd ref?), a LOT of obvious penalties went uncalled, mostly committed by Gulls. In fact I think there was only 1 called all game, and it was a dubious tripping call against the Flyers.
Overall, I thought Flyers were more Run n Gun and created numerous odd-man rushes for themselves, but also gave a lot up. If the Gulls could put their shots on net, it could have been a big Gulls win. On the flip side, if the Flyers could have converted more of their rushes, it could have been a big win by the Flyers. Fun game to watch.
-
4-4 tie, heat vs mariners...sloppy game all around.

Looks like Kings (2) did play over Labor Day Weekend and didn't fair too well against the Jr Sharks. Lost 3 games. Hope they are not the best we have in SCAHA.

Looks like that is the Sharks team that won the State Championship in SQBB last year. So I guess you would expect them to beat a Kings team that is mostly the same as the one that missed the playoffs in SQBB last year. (But it is also the same Sharks team that got smoked by the field of top 07's in last years NHL youth cup)
From what I've seen of the past couple Kings (2) games, there is not clear separation from Ducks (2), Gulls and Flyers. It will be interesting to see how it goes this weekend between the Ducks and Kings. I have a feeling the Ducks will take it.
-
The Squirt A Kings destroyed that Sharks team last season during the NHL Youth Cup. In fact, SJ was pinned in their end the entire game. They (Sharks) are probably the best team in SQA in CA this season. That said, after the initial loss, the Kings had opportunities to put them away and didn't. From what I saw, one game was clearly theirs and the other two were toss-ups.
-
You guys seriously comparing last year's SqA team to the SqA team of '17-'18? Like Janet Jackson said, 'what have you done for me lately?'
Give (me a break) it a rip - YES, i 'would expect them to beat a Kings team that is mostly the same as the one that missed the playoffs in SQBB last year.' OCHockeyDad07 provided proof that it happened... not once, not twice three times. Sometimes, I wonder what YouTube channel some of you learn to assess talent. You're correct though, 'there is not clear separation' among the top teams.

Señor VRSPARTAK has lost all credibility on CalHockey, well with me at least. Either you're watching the same YouTube channel as Give it a Hoot or like another member calls it 'drinking the KOOL AID' Obviously your #2 isn't cutting it either. Maybe it's too soon, I'll wait to hear back from this weekends games and get back to you if your Kings are as good as you say.

Umm, ok. Still think Kings2, Gulls, Flyers, Ducks-Tex. are the top 4 in Squirt A.....don't know too many that would disagree these are the top 4. But feel free to disagree...never said they were the best in the state either.
-
You guys seriously comparing last year's SqA team to the SqA team of '17-'18? Like Janet Jackson said, 'what have you done for me lately?'
Give (me a break) it a rip - YES, i 'would expect them to beat a Kings team that is mostly the same as the one that missed the playoffs in SQBB last year.' OCHockeyDad07 provided proof that it happened... not once, not twice three times. Sometimes, I wonder what YouTube channel some of you learn to assess talent. You're correct though, 'there is not clear separation' among the top teams.

Don't forget Nuff, playing together for multiple years has a profound effect on kids this age. Kings SQA crushed them last year after playing together since Mite Track 1. I can only assume the 07 Sharks formed later and have since gelled as a team based upon their performance. This year's Kings 2 are an amalgamation of 07 and 08s. Most of these kids have never played together and should be thought of as underdogs against any team that has been together for multiple seasons. That said, I know Kings 2 has a lot of talent. If they come together, as was shown in the scores getting closer (one goal games), Kings 2 over the course of the season could easily beat a team like that. I don't know anything about Tex Ducks, Kabanets Ducks, Valencia, or anyone else in the conversation, but based on sheer talent of the kids in SCAHA, the Sharks are easily beatable by team hockey.
-
Ducks 1 Kabanets beat Mariners 9-3 yesterday.
-
Flyers 11-3 over Ice dogs.

It's so quiet in here the last few days. Rumor has it the regular season schedule will be released this weekend.
-
Anybody have some colour commentary from the Kings2-Ducks2 game?
-
It's so quiet in here the last few days. Rumor has it the regular season schedule will be released this weekend.
The AA regular season schedules are now posted. I am betting ours get posted later today.
-
The AA regular season schedule has been posted the entire preseason. They never had a preseason schedule; they only have a SCAHA regular season schedule. I expected the schedule to be online already as I heard SCAHA had released the schedule for the first 4 regular season games to the clubs already; still nothing though.
Anyone have any score updates?
-
Ducks 2 beat Mariners 7-2.
-
First 4 weeks of regular season are posted.
Looks like the Wave might have moved up? Doesn't look like anyone dropped to BB.
-
Maybe, but they still show up on the BB schedule as having games scheduled for the regular season. It also seems they have no games scheduled in A during the regular season.
-
I assume that the SCAHA website is just pulling the team standings from the declarations list. The Wave had declared a SQA team, but I guess were not able to form one (same for the mariners BB team)??
-
We're just 3 days from the start of our Squirt A season and no smack talk or predictions for the weekend. What is wrong with this group? :-)
-
It's been very quiet since that JD2 vs JK2 game. I haven't seen enough of the teams to make educated predictions, so I'll just throw out some guesses:
JD1 over Bears
JD3 over Empire
Flyers over Mariners
JD2 over Heat
Ice Dogs over JK1
Jk2 vs Gulls-I think this is the game of the weekend. I'm picking the Gulls even though I should probably take JK2.
-
I was surprised at how close the Ice Dog / Gulls game was last weekend. Based on preseason standings going in I thought the Gulls would have walked through.
Just goes to show you never know.
-
Welcome Sargent Gary! way to pop that cherry with your reaction to the last preseason games. Not sure if I should pull a CamNewton and laugh that a female has posted her predictions, but I like it. She seems to know what she's talking about. Only difference, I'd take the Jr Kings over the wild parents from San Diego. Somebody should remind them it's 10 year old hockey. Their outbursts and whining might have affect that score last week. **I'm told** SDHockeyDad07, were you part of the heckling going on last week? is that what your YouTube channel taught you how to behave at your kid's games?

Way to go nuffsed; now Oikos Greek Yogurt will drop you for laughing at a female posting predictions on CalHockey! I hope you enjoy having to endorse Activia now. Sadly, I might be the only one who takes the time to post. This thread was so promising in the beginning with vrspartak proclaiming the road to the SCAHA championship goes through TSC, and now crickets.

I was *told* the refs were some of the worst we’ve had in a while, and the game was really chippy and dirty... I’m proud of the way our kids stuck up for their teammates. I wasn’t too impressed with the sportsmanship of the ice dogs. But if you’re one of the parents there, it’s not that surprising.
-
Any scores to report? All I know is JD2 5-Heat 1.

Flyers 8-2 over Mariners

Ha! Not sure what 'stuck up for their teammates' you're talking about, but I was referring to the mummies and daddies who were screaming about the NO calls. You're right, what matters is on the ice. Sounds like the Ice Dogs were too physical. Good to know. Sour'HockeyDad07's team don't like the rough play when its the other team. Looking forward from the vrspartak, who had been silent, to report today's whining. I mean, winning.

JK2 tied the Jr Gulls 7-7. Guess I called that one wrong.

Calls should be made when a distinct advantage/disadvantage is created (hook/hold that keeps an opponent from getting to a puck), when the safety of the players is threatened (dangerous boarding play or roughing after the whistle), or when it's just blatantly obvious what happened (e.g. obvious tripping). All three types of calls were missed when Gulls played the Ice Dogs. So yeah, people yelled.
Rough play is fine when it's clean and within the context of the game, and two teams are battling hard after a puck or for position. I'd just prefer not to have 10 year-olds punching each other in the head after the whistle. But it doesn't surprise me that you're into that kind of stuff.

When our kids played the Ice dogs during preseason there was one or 2 of them that threw punches because of frustration. My kid was one that got punched twice and since ref didn't call it he decided to just lower his shoulder putting the kid into boards. After he was put into boards they both ended up in the box. No big deal part of the game in my book.

? Don't know what that means. Gonna be an interesting season. Top 4 is essentially the same as it was.

We asked about the officials and as it turns out the center ref called in sick. The two remaining refs were actual first year rookies. Possibly didn't know you were not allowed to check in Squirt Hockey? The less the refs called the more aggressive each team became. Your summary of the game was spot on. My opinion may be skewed by that particular game. Our team played against both Gulls and Dogs in preseason and I would say the Gulls were far more physical.

Predictions for the weekend
Gulls over Mariners close game 2 goal difference at most
Ducks 2 over Ducks 1 by over 2 goals even though these two teams know each other well
Flyers over Empire by over 4 goals
Ducks 3 over Heat close game 1 or 2 goal difference
Kings 2 over IceDogs close game 1 or 2 goal difference

I think you got all the winners correct, but I don't see any of them as close 1-2 goal games.

Agree with the winners, and I also agree some of the games will have a greater goal differential like the Gulls and Mariners games.

Flyer HockeyDad30, did you by chance get the idea for a profile name from Hockeymomx? sometimes I wonder how some people live life these days. be original.
good try predicting the games this weekend. please, dumb it down for some of us that prefer the +1, -3 etc. type point spread system. way to be modest against the Empire. your team is better than a -4 differential against that team.
I agree with the winners though, but I call an upset for Ducks 1 to TIE Ducks 2.

The actual score of the game was 9-5 not that it makes much difference. As for the game the Empire team played well inside the defensive zone. The Flyers played like they had won game prior to stepping on ice is the best way I can describe it. There was no sense of urgency to get to loose pucks. I could go on but overall taking nothing away from the Empire team they outplayed the Flyers team that showed up to the rink on this day.

How about an update on the game between JD1 and JD3? I wouldn't mind knowing the result sometime before the team manager posts it Thursday evening. :)

Yes, it definitely appears so.

Anyone else get a chance to digest the new schedule yet??
Looks reasonably balanced with the Kings2 and Flyers getting a little easier draw, and JD1 and Empire with probably the harder slate of games.

The flyers were up to reschedule it scaha forced the forfiet.

Ok, and I see that the Ducks are at the Chicago tournament. But if it is a forfiet by the Ducks then shouldn't the Flyers get the 2 points? It's down in the standings as a tie.

They will once everything gets input. I think they get a 1-0. Probably has to be input by SCAHA.

Gulls beat the Heat, 3-2. A lot closer than we would have liked...

Anyone know the score of the Mariners-Kings1 game?

3-2 Mariners, I believe.

anyone have predictions for this weekends games?

Why not....
JK2 over Mariners by 6+
Gulls over JD1 by 1
Heat get their first win in an upset over Ice Dogs by 1
JD3 over G-Bears by 2
Empire over JK1 by 4
Flyers beat JD2 by 2 to give them their first loss of the season

Kings2 probably win big
Gulls seem to lack the killer instinct so I agree this will be close, but Gulls should win.
Heat are scrappy but the Dogs playing at KHS tend to amp up the rough-stuff so I'll take the Dogs.
JD3 should out score the Bears
Empire are looking better lately so should handle Kings2
I'm not buying the Flyers defense so I'll take JD2 by 2

-
Flyers over Ducks 2
7 to 3
That’s a lot of goals for the Ducks (2) to give up, what happened?
-
Flyers had a good game. End of the first I think it was 3 to 0 Flyers. Shots were Close to even at the end of the game.
Duck parent told me the coaching staff was comprised of replacements and a defender or two were gone.
In the end Flyers played a solid game. It was closer than the score sheet will read.
-
No excuses, Ducks! Everyone misses kids and coaches from time to time. Nice work, Flyers. That just goes to show that every team has its ups and downs.
-
Good job Flyers, it definitely makes things more interesting now that we've had a few upsets in the books.
I guess I was wrong about the IceDogs, from the score sheet it looks like it was the Heat who amped up the rough play.
Thanksgiving in San Diego will be pretty interesting with 5 of the top 6/7 teams in the tournament.
Anyone know the score in the JD3 vs Bears game?
-
Gulls over JD(1) 6-3
Lots of back and forth action and not much room to do much early on for either team. 2nd period saw a lot more space and plenty of scoring. 3rd period was more Gulls offense.
JD(1) rotated their goalies a couple times (contrary to what the scoresheet says at scaha) and one did decidedly better than the other. I mean I realize that if you have 2 goalies at this age group, it's not real fair (or fun for the kid) to sit one the whole game each time, but I really can't see a benefit to either kid when they are getting shuffled in and out at that position a few times a game.

I agree, I've watched several of their games and this constant janking the goalies in and out of the game can't be good. You're going to end up stunting their development and it can only hurt their enjoyment of the game. It's tough being a goalie parent but this has got to really suck.

Curious, how often they switch goalies in a game?

On a different topic, it looks like things may have gotten heated towards the end of the Ducks 3 vs. Bears game. Any color commentary?
-
Curious, how often they switch goalies in a game?
Seems like they switched halfway through each period, though I could be wrong. There were at least 3 swaps, two coming in the middle of the period.
I've seen one swap in the middle of the 2nd, which I think is probably the best way to do it if you have to swap. Maybe there was an equipment issue with one of the goalies or something.

Bears over Mariners not going to be close
Kings2 over Empire not going to be close
Dogs over Ducks (1) close game
Ducks (2) over Gulls not going to be close
Flyers over Ducks (3) ducks have been playing well but I think this game will not be close
The game to see who gets first win of season Kings (1) vs Heat. I will take the Heat in this one should be close game.
close games = 1 or 2 goal difference

close games = 1 or 2 goal difference
Bears vs Mariners: I think it will be close, looks like a tie to me.
Kings2 vs Empire: Kings win easy. It will be interesting to see where they stand once they start playing some of the better teams. So far they've only played 3 top teams (Jr Sharks 07s, JD2, Gulls) and are 0-4-1 in those games. Plus the Thanksgiving tournament is not going to offer much challenge for them.
Dogs vs JD1: JD1 have been blown out in their last 7 games (including the Chicago tournament) and need to get it together. I think the Dogs win by 2.
JD2 vs Gulls: Gulls beat the Ducks in a Tournament game, JD2 beat the gulls in a preseason game. I would expect a close game, I'm going with a tie. These teams could play each other another couple times over Thanksgiving so we'll see who is actually the top dog.
Flyers vs JD3: Both teams seem to score a bunch (and let in just a many). Flyers win (maybe another 12-7 score).
Kings1 vs Heat: Heat will lose the bagel.

Kings1 vs Heat: Heat will lose the bagel.
Kings2 vs Empire: Kings win, and easy. Though I'd like to see how they look once they start playing more teams in the top half of the table, particularly
JD2 and the Flyers.
Dogs vs JD1: Dogs over JD1, but it'll be close. JD1 needs more scoring support... one kid has 8 of the team's 11 goals scored over the 4 games they've played so far.
JD2 vs Gulls: I agree about the JD2 v Gulls game. Not sure why Hockeydad30 thinks it won't be a close game, not only for the reasons you stated, but also because there is very little separation amongst the top 4 teams. Any of them could beat each other on any given Sunday. And the next 3-5 teams aren't so far below those top 4 that they couldn't throw an upset or two into the mix as the season wears on.
Flyers vs JD3: Flyers win.
Kings1 vs Heat: Heat win big.

JD2 1 Gulls 0. It was an exciting game. Both teams played well against each other.
Speaking of Weds game in Tourney. I heard there was 2 (2 and 10s) and a fight in the game.

2 and 10 on the gulls in the 1st for boarding (deserved). 2 and a 10 for boarding on jd2 where the gull player ended up in concussion protocol. Arguably deserved a 5 and 10 for it but I'm biased.
Fight wasn't a fight, just a scrum in front of the net that got matching minors.
Gulls win 5-1 if I remember correctly.
-
I believe Gulls won 5:2 ... and Gulls LOST 8:5 IN FINALS!!!
-
Considering he played the next game and the rest of the tournament, I hope that player wasn't actually in the concussion protocol.
Also, that same 10 and 2 Gulls player got ejected in the championship game for kicking a downed Ducks player multiple times in the head with his blades. Most disgusting thing I've ever seen in a youth hockey game.
-

Lady Byng Guy, Hyperbole much??? I took a look at the video from that game, it looked like the Gulls player stick was tied up and tried kicking the puck as another Duck fell against the boards. No doubt you have to call something there, but to imply some malicious intent is a pretty big stretch.
-
give it a rip,
I don't think a misconduct player gets the benefit of the doubt there. And ejections are reserved for particularly violent and unsportsmanlike plays, not accidents. I've seen tape as well, and I stand by my assessment.
-

If that's the most disgusting thing you've seen in a youth hockey game, then you must not have seen many games. It was definitely a penalty, but to act like he was curb stomping a kids head with his blades is just asinine.
Concussion protocol means he's out for the remainder of the game because his baseline didn't match his test after the hit. They administered it again later on with a doctor, and he matched baseline, so he was allowed to play again after a days rest.
-
Concussion protocol can also mean a very serious injury, so thank you for the clarification. I'm genuinely happy to hear your player saw a doctor and is ok.

Welcome to the forum Sir Lady Byng Guy. Hope you didn't create an email just to get into it with the SoCal misfits. Seems like they got something going on near the border. Them kids actually have kick to 'em... literally. Concussions are some serious s h _ t, but with the player finishing the tournament, that's a good sign I guess.
Everyone else in the Division opted not to play the same ol' teams in San Diego. Where were the Kings at? What's with the "forfeit" Gulls & Ducks??
-
Jr Ducks 3 forfeited. I dunno why...
On the same note it would be really cool if the scaha website stats person could figure out how to enter a forfeited game correctly. A forfeit doesn't mean 0-0 tie.

The kings played in the tinseltown tournament against the other kings team, heat and bears. Had a pretty easy tournament from the looks of the scores. All of the games were 5 plus goal differential.

The Ducks(3) are scheduled to play in the NHL cup this weekend.
The JK2 are also playing in that tournament. Does anyone know if the 4 hr min time between games applies to an outside tournament game and a SCAHA game? It looks like the Championship game in the NHL cup is at 12:40 and the JK2 SCAHA game is at 5:10. If that rule applies, then any delay in the start time will be cutting it close (assuming they make the finals). Either way I hope the JK2 actually face some real competition.

That’s an interesting question? Does the rule apply to the team or to the game/tournament? It should probably be looked into. I would think the JK team would be in contention.

Mariners were in AZ for Thanksgiving, went 2-2. Team of the division were the az bobcats...ran thru everybody they met. They were a declared "squirt aaa" team. Basically, all top 07s from the area. Me thinks scaha top 3-4 would give them a good run. Don't Jr kings have an all 07 team playing peewee aa?

Yes, they do in flight 2.

I have always read this rule as being event specific not team specific. So, I don't think it applies in this situation.

How did the Heat beat Jr Kings(2)?
-
I'm not seeing where it says the Heat beat JK2.
If the Heat did beat JK2 I would assume it was because JK2 played in two games today prior to playing the Heat. No offense to the Heat.
Flyers over Bears 9 to 1
-
Any word from the Ducks2 vs IceDogs game? Did the JD2 avoid the NHL YC curse?
-
Ducks2 beat ID. One of their goalies made it back for the game.
They were short 3 D.
-
How did the Heat beat Jr Kings(2)?
The Heat plays hard and with effort. Good goalie. Maybe JK2 was off a bit.
2 NHL cup games would definitely be a factor. At least they didn’t have to pay SCAHA.
-
How did the Heat beat Jr Kings(2)?
The Heat looked good and played hard. Their goalie made a ton of saves and kept them in the thick of it. The Kings did play two games in the morning, but as it was said before, no excuses! Give the Heat credit, they earned a quality win.
-
Gulls beat Flyers 4-2. Was a very close game (closer than the score) and Flyers controlled play through much of the game. Gulls got a couple long-distance goals including a fluky one that somehow found it's way in.
-
What's the ice dogs vs ducks outcome?
-
What is with the San Diego rinks? They will not use goal pegs in Squirt level ?? I looked on SCAHA and USA hockey both do not dictate this as a rule. Actually USA Hockey recommends that goals be anchored in all levels HS and below.
-
As far as I can tell, USA hockey starts requiring pegs at Peewee and older. Below that it is left up to the rink operators. We used to complain about them in mite because we wanted to protect our precious babies. Now at squirt, and especially after watching the Flyers vs Gulls game last Sunday where it cost the Gulls a goal early on, I really want pegs to be used. And honestly, most of the time they do peg the nets at the Gulls home rink. Not sure why they didn't this last game.
Unless you're talking about a different rink in SD?

They have been pegged in the past is this a new thing?
-
This was the first game this season where they were unpegged. I blame the refs for simply forgetting... but considering the pegs weren’t sitting on the top of the nets, it might have been them just saying “ok, no pegs here. I guess we go no pegs for this game.â€

Interesting!! When we played there in thanksgiving both at gulls home rink and at SDIA before the game the refs pulled the pegs from top of the nets and put them in with scorekeepers. When we asked our coach why they were pulled he said its a san diego thing they do not put them in for squirt games. Yeah might have cost you guys a goal in that game it might not have as well as us there was at least once i can think of when we had sustained pressure and the net coming off due to no pegs stopped play which may have or may not have cost us one. I for one think they should be in especially in squirt A. Especially since goaltenders are taught to slide into post to stop wrap arounds etc.

The 11 penalties called on the Ducks at Toyota made it especially exciting. Wish I could say it was the first time. But hats off to the kid making that play at the end of the game. Amazing.

No sour grapes on the penalties that were called. Every single penalty on both sides were justified (including the delay of game bench minor on the goalie switch that didnt happen). The Officials did a great job and kept control of what was.a.physical game. To be honest, it sure looked to me that the Ducks were targeting kids with clear body checks all game. Eleven penalties was probably on the lite side because it could have been a lot worse.

Still haven't seen a score posted for Ducks 3 vs. Kings 1. Does anyone know who won that game?
One other question, are there any pure 2008 birth-year teams in SQ A this year?

I think the only pure 2008 birth-year team is JD3. Maybe Empire as well??
JD1 and JD2 are probably the only pure 2007 teams, with the rest a mix of 07/08's (The JK2 has about 1/3 2007's, the Gulls are about 1/3 2008's).

The officials were especially great when they put the whistles away on those Ducks' breakaways, right? Or when the kid who scored the winning goal was supposed to be in the penalty box at the time? There's a reason you can't get a decent field for the Tinseltown tournaments anymore. But keep on dancing, Disco.

Dream on, Byng. The kid who scored shouldn't have been in the box. You'e off by one whole jersey number. If you think I'm wrong, TSC is equipped with livebarn. Get a membership and watch the game more objectively. You'll see the Ducks routinely slash the sticks out of Kings' players hands. Repeatedly. Try watching behind the play sometimes. You'll find that your team plays a little on the dirty side. Hey, that's okay though, the kids didn't get all dressed up for nothing! It's also dirty to target players for body checks in a division that doesn't allow it. Look, it was a great game. Don't cheapen what both teams played for because you can't handle the outcome. I don't see anyone complaining that the Ducks goals were all lucky. Considering they were all the results of bad bounces one could employ that logic. No one is though. Why you ask? Because it is a bunch of kids playing hockey. Relax, the refs aren't why you lost.

Sorry, Disco. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and watched the game again. The last penalty of the game on the Kings, the player in question (same number as Mike Trout) clearly rips down the Ducks' breakaway player from behind. The play was whistled, and a nearby Kings' defenseman (a number, four numbers higher than the other player) was sent to the box instead. But thanks for the typically condescending and inaccurate Kings response. Enjoy your win and the rest of that patsy schedule you were awarded, and we'll see you on neutral playoff ice.

Byng, you must be the Father screaming over the glass during the last few minutes of the game. Live through your kid much? First of all, the ridiculous notion that you can see what occurs is simply absurd. The Livebarn camera doesn't pan in time to really see. Knowng your vantage point wasn't any better than mine, I'm going to defer to the official who was in a great position to ACTUALLY SEE WHAT HAPPENED. He made a call, on the kid that committed the infraction no less, and sent him to the box. What more do you want? Secondly, there was nothing condescending in my post. Your kids' team lost. That falls on your team and it's players. Blaming the officials gets you nowhere. Although I'm sure if you keep complaining maybe someone will award you a participation trophy for being in the game! Lastly, why the little brother syndrome? One day everything will be okay! In the meantime, keep bashing the Kings because clearly everything to you is the responsibility of someone else. You sir, are clearly the "I" in TEAM, located prominently in the A hole...

Disco, That almost makes the game sound boring.
Kings up 3-0 in the 3rd period, then Ducks storm back to tie it up. With the Kings hanging on for dear life, they bust through for a breakaway and score with 0.1 sec on the clock.
Any word on the other games?
The 11 penalties called on the Ducks at Toyota made it especially exciting. Wish I could say it was the first time. But hats off to the kid making that play at the end of the game. Amazing.
No sour grapes on the penalties that were called. Every single penalty on both sides were justified (including the delay of game bench minor on the goalie switch that didnt happen). The Officials did a great job and kept control of what was.a.physical game. To be honest, it sure looked to me that the Ducks were targeting kids with clear body checks all game. Eleven penalties was probably on the lite side because it could have been a lot worse.
Except, I didn't see it on your Livebarn. But way to unravel and completely embarrass yourself on here. Again, enjoy the win and we'll see you in a couple months.
Unravel? You mean like your rant about the JK and the officals? I have nothing to be embarrassed about. After all, all I did was post a score...
Lying about what you saw on Livebarn. Namecalling with profanity. Reaching for desperate, cliche burns. Accusing kids and coaches you don't know of intended violence. Failing to acknowledge facts about the game, and the officiating at TSC, which everyone else in SCAHA seems to know. Yes, unravelling. It's all there for everyone to see. Unless you want to edit your posts and change your user name, which wouldn't be the worst idea right now.

Still nothing, Byng. You sound like you need counseling. If you can't take losing one game, maybe the time is at hand to walk away. To be honest, you didnt even lose, your child did. That's character building that is necessary to learm at a young age. Maybe you skipped that process?

I'm out, Disco. My 600 lb husband says I need to get off these boards with you and start paying attention to him. Happy Holidays and good luck the rest of the way.

Anyone have any score updates from this weekend?

Gulls beat Kings (2) 6-4 on Saturday. Great game to watch. Officials called a ton of offsides penalties, killing several odd-man breaks by JK2 and a couple by the Gulls, yet let numerous obvious tripping penalties go uncalled. The details from my piss-poor recollection: Gulls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. 2nd Period was crazy... JK tied it up with 2 quick goals to start the period, then Gulls roar back with 3 straight. One more goal by each team left it a 6-3 gulls lead. 3rd period was all Gulls controlling the play and melting the clock. JK were able to pot one in, but that's all they could muster.
The JK defend well, and they pass the puck really well in their own end and in transition. They also set up well in the offensive zone, and feed the slot and wings a lot for shots. Our goalie did really well, with some sweet glove saves, and some crazy scrambles (would help if our kids would throw the puck to the corner instead of trying to throw it right up the middle of the slot to a waiting shooter from the other team, but whatever. When the gulls began to pull away, JK seemed to pass less, and some of their better players started trying to dodge through 2-3 gulls instead of moving the puck to open teammates on offense. It mostly just led to them losing possession. Again, really good game by both teams and was a fun game to watch.
Gulls beat Ice Dogs 7-1 on Sunday. Was scared it might be a trap game after the big win on Saturday, but the kids took care of business.
Gulls now alone at the top of the standings at 9-1-1. We'll see how long that lasts!

SD if you look at the schedule I think the Gulls should hold on to the top spot till the final game rematch with JD2. If the Gulls take care of business up to the final game then JK2 can't catch them. Then top spot would come down to JD2 vs Gulls on the last day. Assuming the Flyers don't pick off the ducks again!
Anyone know the results of the JK2-JD3 and Empire-JD1 games?
-
Well said! the gulls will be a strong contender if their tender continue to be rock solid. He wears down opponents, possibly the best in the division.
-
JD1 7 - Empire 6
-
JK2 beat JD3. I think the final was 7-3.
-
Flyers over JK2. 5 to 4
Great game to watch.

I only watched the 3rd period, but that was fun to watch.
-
Does anyone know which Jr. Sharks Squirt A team is coming to Colorado Springs, CO for the Presidents Day tournament?
-
It appears that Jr. Sharks A-1 is playing in Phoenix.
-
Anyone know the results of the JD3-Heat and JF-Empire games?
-
Flyers over empire 11-2 or right about there
-
Since the SCAHA site is still down, does anyone have scores from this weekend’s games. I heard JD1 beat the Flyers. JD2 came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat JD3 8-5.
-
Gulls beat Heat 5-3
-
JK1 lost to Mariners 5-2

Scaha site is back up (sort of). Just type in scaha.com to get to it. The bookmark address you might have will likely no longer work.
The navigation is much better, with a lot fewer drop down list boxes.
-
I don’t see a why to log in and input games though.
-
I still can't log into SCAHA
-
BFinny77 can you confirm or deny that the Flyers lost to JD1? Also anyone know the result of the ID-Empire game?
With the JD1 team finishing strong, it's making the battle for the final playoff spot interesting.
-
3-1 final. Ducks over flyers.
-
I don’t see a why to log in and input games though.
Team Manager link just under the "Club/Team" label about halfway down the left-side navigation. That will show the team managers how to log into their portal site to take care of all that stuff... in theory at least!

I see it tells you to login, upload scoresheets, etc. I just don’t see where the login screen is. Based on the number of games not updated, I’m guessing team managers don’t see if either!
-
Looks like the old scaha website is back up... just fyi for all you managers who are now like 3 weeks behind. Thanks scaha!

Flyers Ducks 2 tied 4 to 4
-
King's (1) - Empire 3/3 tie
-
Gulls rally from a 1-4 deficit to beat JD1 5-4. JD1 coming on strong in the 2nd half of the season. Good play by them all around.

Yes, that is how it worked!? The final game decided Bracket 2.
Gulls squeaked a 1st seed by 2 goals. Flyers are 2nd.
Who takes there team to Dave and Busters between games?
-
Gulls are State Champions!
Congrats to them, and to the SCAHA Champion Jr Ducks 2 team that played very, very well. Took 2 overtimes to finally decide the winner.

The goalies especially were incredible. Both saw over 40 shots keeping their teams in it.
Almost an hour of ice time it was a battle. Gulls won the day! Congratulations!
