Title: Squirt B
Post by: Hackey11 on December 13, 2016, 09:54:59 AM
Who's the team to beat in squirt B this season?  Jr Kings (2) looks like the team to beat.

Are any Squirt B parents on here?

There is probably not many SQ B parents on here, because most newer parents to the sport haven't met anyone who tells them about this site.

My child plays for Ont-Wave(4). Our team is pretty good.  Half of them are 08's.

My son wasn't there.  He is the goalie for all home games and some away.  There are no other games for us until January 8, when we play the Oilers and Ducks(2) on the same day.  Looking forward to a full day of hockey!

I haven't seen them play yet. Their record does look good and I think they did well last year.

They have a great program from what I've seen.  Wish I could watch some of the other teams out there.

Flyers only have 2 returning players from last season, the rest moved up to PeeWee or Squirt BB.  Most of the team is 07's.  I agree the Jr. Kings 2 appear to be the team to beat. We are looking forward to playing the Wave 4 in a few weeks, should be a good game.

Our wave (4) team moved up together from the mitessential. This team came in second to the flyers last thanksgiving tournament.

Well, Artesia has some interesting coaches.  They scream at the refs and kids the entire game.  Few of the parents are crazy too.  They act like lives depend on the out come off the game.

I was at the game as well.  I didn't see any screaming at the kids... In fact the coaching staff is actually very mild with the boys.  The team is primarily 08s with 3-4 07s.  A young team that is still getting used to full ice.  I think you are confusing yelling/screaming with on ice instruction.

Now the Refs, yeah there was some issues with them lol. 3-4 obvious tripping penalties missed by the refs that definitely could have swung the game Artesia's way. (final score was a 4-5 loss)  But it is what it is.  That is the type of reffing that is very common in Squirt B.  Hey they gotta learn somewhere haha.  All in all it was a fun game and we were pretty happy with how our kids played.  Even if we came just shy of giving Ont4 their first loss.

Maybe your comments came from the score being a little to close in the end? Got ya a little nervous eh? lmao

Good game for sure!  Over all experience with families from Artesia not so great.  One dad cursing at refs and another telling two of our dads to meet him in the parking lot.  One mom flipping the refs off.  This is just what I saw.  The kids were great.  I'm glad they had fun and came out feeling good about the effort given. Our kids need to get back to defense.

I was also at the game.  Looked like Wave Artesia was overmatched but made quite a game out of it.  Wave 4 tied this weekend against the heat.  I think we'll see what that team is made of after the game against OC.   Orange County has a much better goalie than the heat and similar goal scorers.  Wave 4 has had mostly a soft schedule till recently.  Wave 4 should be a good playoff team but Kings2 is the team to beat.  Probably wave 4 or OC vs Kings 2 for title

Interesting take on the Ontario 4/Artesia game fella. I clearly heard the Ontario side saying, and i'm using quotation marks here for good reason, "we're about to get ugly" and "I'm your huckleberry" which was miss used anyway. This was after a wretched old woman decided she needed to cheer AT the Artesia families after each goal instead of towards the innocent child unfortunate enough to be her kin. And mind you this was all after racist comments made towards the Hispanic 8 and 9 year olds on the Artesia team. Pretty sure your impression of the events were a little biased. But hey, I was just there waiting for the next game so let's assume my POV is the correct one, shall we?

If you don't mind, what was said?  I'd like to address this with whomever said it.  My kids aren't white and we play on that team.  I'd love to address this with them. I don't have any room for racism. Please message me privately.

After a penalty was called for a pretty good but aggressive play on the puck an early 30's white male said with a stereotypical Hispanic gang member accent, "that's how they do it Artesia style S.A." Terrible. Very classless.

It's usually top 8 make the playoffs which are divided into 2 pools of 4.  The two pools play round robin and the top 2 advance.

From the 2 pools there will be semifinals (1 v 2) across the brackets.

The winners will play for a SCAHA championship.

These finalists will also advance to the CAHA tournament which is often an adventure, because Norcal doesn't have a Squirt BB division.

So now that the season is nearing the end, I'm curious about the thread's OP -- who do you guys think are the top teams? I think the standings can be a somewhat deceiving because schedule strength really plays a part in where everyone has landed so far. That said, of the teams I've seen I think OCHC, and Oilers have been the best.

It'll be interesting. Oilers are a pretty good team. They skate really well. I thought overall OCHC was the best team we saw this year. Good players and very well coached.

7th through 10th place is interesting.  Ice dogs and gulls (2) playing against each other this weekend.

I think Wildcats are out already even with a win and an Ice Dogs loss to Gulls as Wildcats lose the tiebreaker (goal differential) to Ice Dogs.  So, seems like only 2 of Gulls, Ice Dogs and Saints will get to postseason.

Think it will shake out like this:

Saints have a fairly easy game and should win this weekend and slide in.

If the Gulls win it will look like this:

kings         wave
ochc          oilers
flyers         Gulls
heat          Saints

ice dogs win:

kings         Wave
OCHC        Oilers
Flyers        Ice dogs
heat          saints*

Gulls/ Ice dogs tie:

Kings                                         wave
ochc                                          oilers
flyers                                         Gulls
Heat(likely based on GDF)           Saints

*fixed

Correct if Gulls win (Ice Dogs out).

Wrong if Ice Dogs win.  Saints would be 7th and Heat 8th with 21 points (Gulls out with 20).

Correct if Gulls/Ice Dogs tie (Ice Dogs out).

I think this is correct.  Let me know if I'm wrong.

Bracket 1 - Seed 1 OCHC and Seed 2 Kings
Bracket 2 - Seed 1 Saints and Seed 2 Wave 4

Any thoughts on the weekend?

I saw some good hockey from some great kids all giving it everything they had.

Have to say witnessed the Kings parents being very nice to the OCHC kids and joking with a few of the kids after the game between those two clubs.  Great sportsmanship!

LOL also saw a parent from another game so upset and shaken up he was yelling at his wife that she had to go untie skates cause he wan't going to.

Kings (2) vs Wave (4)! This should be a great game! Both will represent Southern California in the State Championship games.  I believe #13 from the Kings is actually Kyle Clifford. That boy is huge.  I saw his birth certificate, it was written in crayon with a 50 dollar bill attached.
