CAHA 16u Tier1 playoff schedule
« on: March 16, 2021, 08:58:03 PM »
This was brought to my attention by someone recently.  Ducks were given a bye directly to the District playoffs apparently, and are going to forgo a CAHA banner in the process.  I also heard that this means that 2 out of the 3 competing CAHA teams will get to the Districts.

If I have any of these facts wrong, feel free to correct me.  The one thing that is clear is that the U16 CAHA playoffs is a 3 team contest between the JK, Reign and Sharks.

3/19 - JK vs JR @ 6:30am
3/19 - Sharks vs JR @ 11:50am
3/19 - Sharks vs JK @ 5:20pm

So, not only are the JR getting about 3 hrs 50 minutes between games, but they also get to play the Sharks who are on their first game of the day.  Well, that doesn't seem real fair, but --- apparently there isn't much ice available in Vegas, and CAHA is real sorry.  At least you could argue that there are only 3 teams and somebody has to play a 2nd game against a team on their first.

Then you look at the schedule for 3/20:

3/20 - 6:50am JR vs Sharks
3/20 - 2:20pm JK vs JR
3/20 - 8:20pm Sharks vs JK

Wait --- you don't mean that the JR AGAIN has to play a 2nd game vs. a team that is on their first game of the day?  ::)   I'm sure that CAHA is again, real sorry  ;D

On a positive note, at least these games are being played when 15-17 year olds are at their peak, which is the 6am - 7am time period.

Doesn't seem accidental to me either.

Jr. Kings 15s have the exact same schedule as the 16 Jr. Reign.

How does CAHA awarding the Reign a 16u AAA team when the
Reign didn’t have anything close to a roster’s worth of AAA ready 16 year olds play into the conspiracy theory?

The Ducks were supposed to host Districts and as the host get byes into Districts.  In the case of the 16u team, that makes it more likely that the Reign will qualify.

So they got screwed too.

Makes it seem even more deliberate that the lowest ranked team is the one that got served up the worst schedule.

The point of the thread really wasn't about the Ducks getting a bye, but at least that explains why they got the bye.  The point was that CAHA is making 1 team play 2 of their 4 games against teams that are on the 1st game of the day, when they are on their 2nd.   Seems like a dumb way to run a tournament, when at least you could spread that pain to 2 of the 3 teams.

As for the Reign, to be fair, the majority of the team is 15u.  JK team also has a healthy number of 15u, given the events of the last few seasons from what I have heard.

From the looks of what happened at the T1ehl playoffs, the Sharks 16u looks like a pretty legit team, if the team that competed there is the same one that will be at the CAHA playoffs.

CAHA always gives the last place team the worst schedule.  In the round robin format, it's the only reward for finishing out of last place. Happens every year.

In the rankings, the Jr Kings are well above the Reign. I'll not comment on the Seals, except to say that in the only game played between the Kings and a team called the Seals, the Seals won 2-0

Legit is a relative term, I'm applying to their participation in CAHA.  Considering that they were never given an opportunity to actually form a team, and played no games, they went into a tournament playing many teams with 35+ games and came out with some wins.

Based on that limited amount of data, I can prognosticate that likely they would have been 2nd ranked in California if they had formed, and possibly be ranked in the high 60's.

For T1ehl they competed in the lower division, so none of the teams were going to be in the upper echelon.

Beat Chicago Fury 5-3 (Rank 73)
Beat Belle Tire 7-1 (108)
Beat JK 2-0 (74)
Lost 3-4 Rampage (76)

I never meant to suggest they will challenge the Ducks, but they have a good chance to come out with the CAHA playoff title, which would be something considering they were the most limited club in a state that provided the most limitations to club hockey play.

The 'seals' team also played the #25 Coyotes 3 times, losing by 2, 1, and 2 goals.

My guess is that team would be ranked in the 40's as they have been every year.

Jr Sharks first game was a 6-5 OT win versus Jr Kings (Kings widely outshot, but had great goaltending, Jr Sharks with a lot of horrible turnovers).
Ended up beating Reign 9-3, then 10-0.
Jr Kings beat Reign 6-1 then lost to them 3-0
Jr Sharks won final 4-1 versus Kings

Jr Sharks are legit. Districts will likely come down to a showdown between Jr Sharks and the Jr Ducks, like last year. Both teams have improved.

Was a great tournament.
