SCAHA SELECTS
« on: December 14, 2021, 10:41:12 PM »
My opinion on selects is  that it ends up being nothing more than a money grab and a good skate for Tier 2 kids.  Giving the AA kids an opportunity to play against some AAA kids.  A hand full of them looking better and some AAA  kids that made the cut.  Suggestion...give the evaluators their sheets with no names or affiliation, just numbers (i know  helmets).  Maybe that way some AA kids could join in the experience.  There were a handful of AA kids that deserve to make the cut.  JMO

The selection committee is a joke. Most of the players that made it through were either part of an affiliate club or taking private lessons with a coach from an affiliated club. And CAHA camp won’t be any better considering that most will not out of that camp as well do to the fact that the selection committee will be adding all the California kids that are out of state to move on. Total money grab.

First year experience?   In the end, cream usually rises to the top.  Most selection processes, no matter what for, are lacking for most people.  At the national level per age group,  There are only 30-40 seats(?) at the final table with 1000's of kids competing for those seats.  99% of the kids will not make it.  and if even 1/2 of the parents get why, the other half end up in the life is unfair camp.

A AA player can make the cut but, usually only the AAA players usually advance.  It is a good skate for AA players looking to advance and progress as they can see the gaps and where they need to improve.  Unless the player is a phenom, the most valuable aspect of this is the Reginal Development camp for 17U. The 17U group is highly scouted by Juniors and the player will be identified if they do well.  Few players move on the the national development camp but, many get Main Camp invites.
