What you don’t think 80% of the 16U teams want to travel to NorCal for 2/3 of the CAHA weekends? It’s unbelievable!

They have so little respect for so cal tier II hockey parents. It's almost painful.

SCAHA posted their schedule for the exhibition/scrimmages for this season- dates and times listed on the website.  And yes, the CAHA schedule sucks for the CAHA weekends for the SoCa teams.

Still waiting for that CAHA game schedule though.  Heaven forbid we know when the last games end so we can book flights home.

My understanding though has always been locations are determined via bidding.  SoCal rinks don’t bid and provide the necessary ice, but NorCal rinks do.

If they can't get so Cal rinks to bid then they shouldn't offer Tier II hockey in So Cal.  If they told you that nobody would bid on playoffs so everybody has to go to Vegas, would you believe them?

Need to put more weight behind it. Tier 1 status should be on the line. Multiple Kings and Ducks operated rinks need to step up.

No because it’s clear San Jose will offer to host (actually Valencia has it this season), but I have no problem believing the JD and JK aren’t undercutting NorCal bids because they can make more money with other events.  Of course, since the five largest clubs get offered AAA, maybe AAA status contingent on hosting CAHA weekends.

Then you have to pay more to keep the sport where the teams form. It's not rocket science. The money it costs to fund three trips to Nor Cal to play So Cal teams keeps people from participating. It benefits a few rinks and costs parents thousands. If you don't care about the growth of the sport and you want to squeeze more money from those already on the hook, you do this.

Unquestionably, Covid has made the sport take a hit with participation down in California. However, when I read this, I can't help but also wonder about businesses that are looking to make make money in the short term instead of doing what's best for families they count on to continue to frequent local rinks for years to come. Of course numbers are down.

The average tourney cost $1,600-$1,800 for a team entry to play between 4-6 games.  CAHA is charging $2,300 for 4 games and sending us to Vacaville all year.  They say no one is bidding down south.  Kings and Ducks almost never host CAHA and now they own most of the rinks...Except Valencia and Simi Valley...The only other rinks that ever tend to get bids.  Weird stuff.  I wonder who's to blame on this?

My suggestion is. In you offer tier 2 in your club, you HAVE TO be willing to host.  These clubs don't want to host because they make an extra $200 to rent ice to someone else or public skating ?  If you are making $$ on tier 2 offer your rink !!
