Competitive PeeWee Hockey Ruined
« on: October 10, 2022, 10:09:03 AM »
Does anyone else feel that CAHA's irresponsible and greedy decision to allow 5 PeeWee AAA major teams has ruined the competitive spirit of this age group?  Outside of the Ducks and Kings there is one really good AA team and 2 mediocre AA teams.  With the AA division being a glorified BB division due to 3 teams worth of AA talent being sucked out it makes for long a uncompetitive trips up north for teams to win by 10+ every game.  On top of that the AAA teams that travel all over the country already, now have to waste their time to go up there and pound teams by 15+.  What's the point?

I'd imagine an independent AAA team that skipped CAHA games and their fees and strictly focused on their out of state travel games would be an easy sell to attract talent at all age levels.  "Oh no! we can't win states! oh no! we can't play the Sharks! Oh no! We're not required to pay $1,500 to play against a team we do not want to play!" It would need a David, willing to stand up to Goliath.  Maybe we'll see something like this next year.  The best 2011 AAA team is currently a AA team.  If the organization can get the parents to hold the line next year they'd probably have no choice but to do this.

All this has led to a trickle down of a very mediocre AA division. But at the end of the day...more money!  I'm sure next year instead of 5 AAA teams we'll have 8.  Good times.

Same stuff here, Hockey Guy.  The option always exists to relocate and find the right balance of development, competition, costs, and travel elsewhere out of State, right?  The secret cabal and mindset within SCAHA and CAHA has been in place for a very long time.  CA club hockey is a big business, that ain't changing any time soon.  Community based non-profit Association hockey in the Winter is out there....  Otherwise, try to hop on the SCAHA or CAHA Board and try to make the change you seek.... David v Goliath ain't happening either since parents would rather just cut the check or give up their bank account deets for auto-debits vs fight the real fight, IMO. Good night, good luck and good hockey.
