Scratching my head
« on: June 05, 2024, 12:15:05 PM »
So Triple A tryouts are over.
Looking at last year's Double-A Bantam Major statics and who was chosen for the Jr. Kings Triple-A roster, in a talent depleted year.
The Jr. Kings had an opportunity to select (5) top AA players out of the top (10) Double-A Bantam Major's statistically but chose only 2.
Some other players chosen weren't even in the top 20 statistically that made it.
Anyone else find that interesting?

Hey B-Real maybe the kids not selected played on teams that wracked up points against bad teams and the kids selected played National ranked teams and performed well. Or maybe at this level teams avoid complaining parents that are always worried about their kids stats and not about the team.

Gretzky99- Interesting point of view. Maybe that is the case. Or maybe the kids that were chosen (even over other kids that also performed well against National ranked teams) were the sons of the Daddy Coaches or Team Manager, but who knows. Either way, it seems you agree that the selections weren't purely based on talent.

I don't think Trevor ever had any intentions of fielding an Empire 18AA team.  Rather, several of the returning players from the 16AA team that finished 3rd at Nationals last year were pushing for this idea.  Since Aiken took the helm of the Ducks 18AAA team and won CAHA seven consecutive years in a row... it's a foregone conclusion that they will win yet again in 2025.  Aiken pretty much has the pick of the litter of SoCal 18AAA players.  Knowing this, several of the Empire kids tried to convince Trevor to make another run at Nationals at the 18AA level and avoid all the cost/travel of AAA hockey.  Trevor, however, held steadfast that he wanted a 18AAA team.

Empire should do well this year at AAA. They have the personnel to do so.
